Haystack 2.0, 2022

Haystack 2.0 is an outdoor modular furniture made from reused materials for Polygon Live 2022. Polygon Live is a colossal polygonal structure with the hyper definition of 360-degree sound and visual experience. It is set to bring immense multi-sensorial reality to any being entering the space. Given the trust to design a chill-out area for this stage, our main goal is to create a space where people can put their sensorial reception to rest. A space where you can relax your body and mind before returning to the zone.
Haystack is probably the most common form of seating you often see at a music festival. It is cheap, ready to use, and environmentally friendly. It became our challenge to design a seating that has all the key qualities that make Haystack so popular - but more fun. Haystack 2.0 was born from the marriage of used vinyl banners and off-cut foam from sofa production. We used the vinyl banners to make outer pillow sleeves. Vinyl is a durable and waterproof material that is suitable for outdoor use while giving an eclectic aesthetic from its print. The off-cut foam was used as pillow stuffing to provide the perfect comfort for the chill-out area. There are 2 types of pillow modules and they can form countless types of seating. For this event, we created 8 types of seating in which each one suggesting its unique kind of social interaction.
As a pillow module, Haystack 2.0 is easy to transport, store, and reuse. In various spatial arrangements and different types of stuffing materials, Haystack 2.0 becomes a performative object that engages with the human body and social interaction in music festivals.

Materials
Used vinyl banners and off-cut foam from the sofa productions were used as the main materials. We used the vinyl banners to make outer pillow sleeves. Vinyl is a durable and waterproof material that is suitable for an outdoor use while giving an eclectic aesthetic from its print. The off-cut foam was used as pillow stuffing to provide the perfect comfort for the chill-out area.
After the festival ended, we removed the foam stuffing and returned the materials to the sofa manufacturer and keep the vinyl sleeves for use in the next festival.
